Regional Data & Research

Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have a variety of data and a strong history of research on climate change impacts, risk, adaptation and mitigation.  The list below represents a selection of relevant data and research that can better enable farmers, foresters, and land managers to make climate-informed resource management decisions.

Climate Data and Research

CLCC - Downscaled Climate Data
CLCC's data center and geodata site provides access to downscaled climate data - projections for the period 1960-2099 for Puerto Rico.

NASA - Global Climate Change
NASA's site delivers current news and data streams about global warming and climate change.

National Drought Mitigation Center
The National Drought Mitigation Center helps people and institutions develop and implement measures to reduce societal vulnerability to drought, stressing preparedness and risk management rather than crisis management.

Agricultural Data and Research

NRCS RCA Report – Interactive Data Viewer

The Soil and Water Resources Conservation Act (RCA) provides broad natural resource strategic assessment and planning authority for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The purpose of the RCA is to ensure that USDA programs for the conservation of soil, water, and related resources are responsive to the long-term needs of the Nation. This interactive data website allows the public to view and download current data on natural resources and conservation activities.

USDA Foregin Agricultural Service - Crop Explorer
The USDA Crop Explorer Web Site features near-real-time global crop condition information based on satellite imagery and weather data. .

Forest Data and Research

Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) - Southern Research Station

Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) collects, analyzes, reports, and distributes data about the Nation’s forests: how much forest exists, who owns it, what condition it's in, where it’s located, and how it's changed.

U.S. Forest Service Experimental Forests and Rangelands (EFRS)

The U.S. Forest Service  operates 7 EFRs within the Northeast Hub Region  These long term sites  provides a wide range of knowledge of climatic and environmental change in natural and managed forests of the northeastern United States.

USGS Land Cover Institute

The USGS and other agencies and organizations have produced land cover data to meet a wide variety of spatial needs. The USGS LCI has been established to provide access to, and scientific and technical support for, the application of these land cover data.

Water Data and Research

USGS Caribbean Water Science Center

A source for water-resource information collected and interpreted by the U.S. Geological Survey in the Caribbean..

Soil Data and Research

NRCS Caribbean Area - Soils

The Caribbean Area, comprised of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, is part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) program. The National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) is a nationwide partnership of federal, regional, state, and local agencies and institutions. This partnership works together to cooperatively investigate, inventory, document, classify, and interpret soils and to disseminate, publish, and promote the use of information about the soils of the United States and its trust territories. The activities of the NCSS are carried out on national, regional, and state levels.
