Thursday, March 23, 2017

Joel Larson has joined the USDA Southeast Regional Climate Hub (SERCH) as its Acting Director. Larson will lead the SERCH team while Director Steve McNulty pursues a one-year research sabbatical.

Larson comes to SERCH from the USDA Climate Change Program Office, which coordinates the Department’s responses to climate change, focusing on implications for agriculture, forests, grazing lands, and rural communities.

Prior to joining USDA, Larson worked with the Bureau of Land Management, where he coordinated activities related to fish and wildlife, forestry, and grazing, among other natural resource management issues. He holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography from Macalester College.

SERCH translates science into tools and information to ensure that agriculture, forestry, and rural communities can respond to climate change and variability.
