Michael Gavazzi

Michael Gavazzi is the coordinator for the USDA Southeast Climate Hub and natural resource specialist for the USDA Forest Service Eastern Threat Center. Michael has a master's degree in forestry from Virginia Tech, and his research has focused on understanding how management practices such as site conversion, clearcutting, thinning, and fertilization, along with natural weather variability affect the carbon and water cycles of loblolly pine plantations in the North Carolina coastal plain. His research also includes assessing the impact of prescribed burning on forest fuel loads and tree growth. As coordinator for the SE Hub, Michael focuses on delivering climate related outreach, tools, and information to land owners and natural resource managers to help inform decision making and improve the resilience and productivity of their working lands.
