Michael Gavazzi is the coordinator for the Southeast Climate Hub, as well as a natural resource specialist for the USDA Forest Service Eastern Threat Center. Michael has a master's degree in forestry from Virginia Tech, and his research has focused on understanding how management practices such as site conversion, clearcutting, thinning, and fertilization, along with natural weather variability affect the carbon and water cycles of loblolly pine plantations in the North Carolina coastal plain. His research also includes assessing the impact of prescribed burning on forest fuel loads and tree growth.
