'As If You Were There' is a network of interactive farm and forest demonstrations. A visit to the sites showcases how others are dealing with weather and climate risks in the Northeast.
Six new forestry focused tours feature adaptation practices specific to urban forestry (Worcester’s Urban Forest, Building Resiliency at Rockaways), agroforestry (Dickinson College Farm's Silvopasture, Agroforestry at Angus Glen) and forest management (Monongahela Forest Restoration, Forest Management with Providence Water). These tours include 360 photography, videos, factsheets, and other resources to help managers address climate challenges.
Field trips are a powerful teacher and an ideal way to see adaptation practices in action. The virtual tours are designed to take you into the field (or forest) and make you feel 'As If You Were There.’ Here, visitors can immerse themselves in these interactive experiences to discover how others in the region are adapting to the changing climate. As our land grant partners in Cooperative Extension share these tours with land managers, perspectives expand and a variety of adaptation options can be considered by both the technical service providers and the managers. Viewers are virtually ‘meeting’ the people who are addressing climate issues in our region, and can reach out to them directly to learn more about their practical strategies to adapt to climate change. The USDA Northeast Climate Hub hopes that these immersive, multi-media experiences will lead to increased adoption of adaptation actions throughout the region by Extension professionals and land managers.
