Increasing humidity and precipitation and rising extreme temperatures are having negative impacts across the Midwest. Integrating climate adaptation into planning processes can help build adaptive capacity to increase climate resilience. The U.S. Climate Resiliency Toolkit for the Midwest Region is an excellent resource to find case studies, tools, expertise and steps to resilience to plan adaptation to a changing climate in many sectors, including agriculture.
Natural Resources Specialist, Justin Mount, is improving producers’ understanding of crop system planning tools, specifically the Integrated Erosion Tool (IET). The IET is a web-served, geospatial, farm field-level crop system analysis tool for estimating wind and water erosion, soil and air quality trends plus energy used per acre.
Agriculture is indelibly connected to surrounding weather and climate conditions, which impact crop growth along with diseases and soils. Understanding current weather and climate issues is imperative to supporting sustainable crop production in the Midwest.
